A member of Lodge Canoblas Lewis recently received a word of the day on their smart phone app "Dictionary"...
As with many words of the day from this app, It is an uncommon old-style word...
"Shibboleth"... Particularly Masonic... |
Many masons will get a smile about this word as it has a definite use in certain masonic ceremonies.. .
This word, like so many others, are words that have differing and Significant meaning within Freemasonry.
Let us explain by way of example, such as the "Lewis" suffix is one of them. In masonic tradition a Lewis is the Son of a Mason.
Therefore a Lewis Lodge is the son of another Lodge - in our case Canoblas Lewis was started out of the old lodge Canoblas having too many members, therefore a core of these brothers decided to start a new lodge... and here we are 50 years later!
So, if you are interested in the double meanings that Freemasonry has with the English language, please come along to a practice night or give us a call and discuss what Freemasonry is all about. We reckon that you will enjoy Freemasonry as much as we do!
